About the Artist
Inspiration for art this semester was to improve my skills as much I could and get as much experience working with different mediums as much as I could. I wanted to improve my accuracy in taking mental pictures I get out of my head and translating them onto paper.During this semester I was able to work with many different materials and taking this class will be a learning experience not easily forgotten. I was able to find out what my strengths were as an artist and figure out what gave my art it's own style. Along with that I saw what I need to improve upon in my art such as always having keep my observation skills as sharp as possible.
It was great learning about Printmaking techniques and processes, acrylic, watercolor, and tempera painting, along with many other things even such as the basics I started out learning like the five elements of shading. Understanding the balance of positive and negative space also was a great reminder to help improve my work. Even though this wasn't a photography class I was able to improve on my photography by applying rules used in making a good composition such as rules of third. Overall, this semester I feel I was able to improve myself as an artist and can't wait to get started on other kinds of art I can learn how to make.

A project I was able to complete this semester that had a couple of obstacles was my teapot. Don't get me wrong, working with clay was a lot of fun, but trying to make certain shapes needed was a challenge at some points. Making the spout was challenging since I was trying to avoid causing cracks in the clay by keeping it moist and not putting the clay under stress from really tights curves. At the same time the shape that I ended up making was very straight and not the way I was hoping it to come out. Along with that, trying to fuse the bottom of the pot to the body was challenging because doing it by hand left a lot of hand marks at the bottom where I fused the pieces together. Now that I have gained the experience from working with this clay project and a couple other now I realized could have used a flat piece of wood to beat it flat in to shape.
A painting I did during the semester entitled " In The Andes" is one I'm very proud of painting. You can read more about it in my blog.
I was taught how to paint with tempura and I noticed that you can use similar technique that's used in watercolor. My teacher showed me how to apply similar values of paint using the wet on wet technique to achieve that illusion of mountain shapes and shadows. Along with that I learned how focus on the different values of the composition by viewing it black and white to better decipher them. Painting this was very enjoyable and makes me want to do more mountain scenes and try making some happy little trees next time I try tempura.
My goal for this piece is was to be as accurate as possible with my blending of colors to match the shades, and then applying the wet layers of paint as quick I could to keep the shadow and shades easy to control.
I'm happy we had a choice when it came down to choosing our own photography to use when learning how to improve it as a composition and making it more appealing for the viewer to look at.I love taking pictures of what I'm doing while welding in my college class and being able to apply it in my art class was very helpful and great practice for example, learning how to apply rules of thirds.
